Infrastructure Rehabilitation Has Begun
Sewer infrastructure rehabilitation work is well underway in Mills Mill Village. MetroConnects celebrated breaking ground on the $13 million grant-funded project in a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in April. Local officials came together with the community to sign a pipe that will be used to replace the more than 100-year old clay pipes that currently are transporting wastewater throughout the mill village. The signed pipe was placed underground this week, and will now serve the Mills Mill Village community by keeping its wastewater exactly where it is meant to be — out of sight and out of mind!
The Mills Mill Village rehabilitation project is part of MetroConnects’ Clean Water Forward Initiative, which aims to reduce Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) and Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) throughout Greenville County’s wastewater collection system. Crews will be replacing/relocating almost 15,000 linear feet (or three miles) of gravity sewer lines and 85 manholes to correct the existing structural defects. They will also resurface about 2.5 miles of roadway where the lines will be relocated. Greenville Water will also rehabilitate and replace water lines to minimize disruption by coordinating the work.
Additional wastewater collection rehabilitation projects will occur in Dunean Mill Village, Union Bleachery Mill Village, and Judson Mill Village. Keep up-to-date on the latest news about the projects at www.cleanwaterforward.org/projects.
