Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict, dba MetroConnects, is pleased to announce the promotion of Joshua Hawkins, P.E., to Assistant General Manager, recognizing his leadership, technical expertise, and longstanding commitment to advancing the organization’s mission of providing sustainable wastewater collection services throughout Greenville County.
Hawkins previously served as MetroConnects’ Chief Technical Officer, where he oversaw the utility’s engineering, capital improvement, and asset management programs. In his new role, Hawkins will support strategic leadership and daily operations of MetroConnects while helping guide the organization’s continued growth, infrastructure investments, and commitment to customer service. He will work closely with executive leadership and staff to ensure MetroConnects continues to deliver reliable wastewater collection service to more than 330,000+ residents in Greenville County.

Hawkins joined MetroConnects in 2019 as Director of Engineering before being promoted to Chief Technical Officer in 2021. During his time with the organization, he has played a key role in managing capital improvement initiatives, supporting development and capacity planning efforts, advancing asset management practices, and strengthening the utility’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence. Most recently, he served as the project manager for the construction of the new MetroConnects’ 28-acre campus located at 1151 W. Butler Road.

A licensed professional engineer and Clemson University graduate, Hawkins brings more than two decades of leadership and technical experience to the position. His background in utility management, engineering and infrastructure planning has helped position MetroConnects as a proactive leader in the wastewater collection industry. A native of Moncks Corner, S.C., Hawkins retired at the rank of Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force Reserves in 2024, having served his country for 20 years. Hawkins and his wife, Thea, reside in Simpsonville with their three children.
