Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Foreman
MetroConnects (Metro) is a special-purpose district, governed by a seven-member Commission that operates and maintains 1,500 miles of sanitary sewer mains within Greenville County, South Carolina. Metro is seeking a successful candidate to fill the available full-time Foreman position.
This position, under direct supervision, ensures crew members complete tasks correctly and in a timely manner. This position reports to the O&M Director.
Position Responsibilities – Essential
- Performs final CCTV of new sewer system and rehabilitation construction.
- Oversees and helps cut and maintain Metro sewer ROWs. Responsible for cleaning, inspecting, and greasing ROW equipment.
- Oversees the use of and utilizes the Sewer Line-Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT).
- Supervises and manages crews who are responsible for performing inspections, ensuring the successful cleaning, washing, and maintenance of the sanitary sewer system, including pump stations daily.
- Supervises and manages crews who perform various construction and maintenance tasks to include, excavation, moving and compacting dirt, installing and assembling pipes and pipe fittings, cutting concrete, removing debris, grease, and roots from sewer lines, and locating lines and manholes.
- Conducts field investigations to verify mapping and checks wet weather flow monitors through storm tracking.
- Correctly uses locating equipment to locate underground services.
- Cross-trains in the use of all sewer line maintenance equipment.
- Ensures proper use and maintenance of equipment and protection of work areas.
- Ensures the safety of crewmen, pedestrians, and equipment.
- Issues and manages confined space permits as needed.
- Obtains direction assignments from the designated manager and performs assigned tasks as directed.
- Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner and ensures that equipment used is in safe and operating condition in accordance with the organization and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards.
- Oversees traffic direction during maintenance projects, including but not limited to traffic direction, setting up work zones, etc.
- Performs inspections as required by preventative maintenance programs and in response to system failures in emergency situations.
- Performs routine maintenance and inspection of camera equipment.
- Provides accurate completion of all forms that pertain to the job.
- Provides training and instruction to subordinate personnel in the proper and safe operation of equipment and tools.
- Responds to customer issues and complaints.
- Serves on-call for emergencies.
- Communicates with other crews and departments about issues, concerns, etc.
- Detects and reports any unusual conditions, defective parts and materials, or design errors to the manager.
- Raises and lowers manholes for paving projects.
- Communicates with homeowners and business owners as needed.
- Utilizes a mapping system to locate the sewer system.
- Utilizes the asset management system to include, but not limited to, creating and completing work orders, child work orders, tasks, and inspections.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in ROW and operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer systems, and ability to operate the organization’s ROW equipment.
- Must possess certifications in First Aid/CPR and stay up to date on all organization and industry training requirements.
- Must possess a valid South Carolina commercial driver’s license or the ability to acquire one within three (3) months of employment.
- Must be computer literate and able to utilize a computer and various computer systems.
- Desire and ability to manage and lead other individuals.
Compensation
Salary is negotiable based on experience. Metro offers a competitive benefits package including South Carolina Retirement and comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance. No relocation assistance is provided. A background check and drug screening are a condition of employment. Metro also conducts random drug screening during employment.
