Greenville Water Collective, Roper Mountain Science Center Present “Imagine A Day Without Water” on Friday, November 7, 2025

November 4, 2025

What would our lives be like if, even for one day, there was no water? What kind of impact would it have on you, your family, and your community?

We bathe with it, cook with it, drink it, and use it to grow our foods and produce many goods. Water is essential and an invaluable part of our daily lives.

The Greenville Water Collective, comprised of Greenville County Soil and Water Conservation District, Greenville Water, Greer CPW, MetroConnects and Renewable Water Resources (ReWa), are highlighting the value of water during its annual Imagine a Day Without Water celebration from 1:30-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Roper Mountain Science Center, 402 Roper Mountain Road, Greenville, SC 29615.

This event will provide families an opportunity to explore Greenville’s Water Cycle and learn how each water-related entity in Greenville County cares for our water and what life in our community would look like without their hard work. The day includes hands-on activities, games, and an opportunity to explore exhibits at Roper Mountain’s Environmental and Sustainability Building.

“We hope this festival will help all to remember the incredible role water plays in our lives and support our efforts to maintain and replace critical infrastructure to support our most precious resource – water,” said Carolyn Farr Shanesy, a member of the Greenville Water Collective.

Admission is $8. A limited number of free tickets are available by contacting a member of the Greenville Water Collective.

Quick facts:

  • A water main breaks every two minutes somewhere in this country.
  • The effects of climate change are increasingly felt through water, whether it be scarcity or overabundance.
  • And, though not well known, more than two million Americans still lack the dignity of access to water and wastewater services.

Imagine A Day Without Water is a national campaign, sponsored by the U.S. Water Alliance, highlighting the value of water in our lives and challenging individuals, communities, and policymakers to advance greater and more equitable water investments. The US Water Alliance is a national membership organization advancing policies and programs to secure a sustainable One Water future for all.  Many of the traditional approaches and assumptions used over the past two centuries to design, build, and operate our existing water systems are insufficient to meet present needs. The US Water Alliance unites voices across the water sector, fostering collaboration and activating bold leadership to address the array of current issues the sector faces and effectively advance a One Water future. The Greenville Water Collective is a group of passionate and engaged professionals employed in a variety of water-related agencies. Organizations include local utilities, conservation nonprofits and county government departments from throughout Greenville County. While the day-to-day operations of these entities may look vastly different, we are united in our reliance and responsibility to one resource: water!
