Dunean Mill Village Ribbon Cutting Celebration
MetroConnects is excited to cut the ribbon and begin its wastewater improvement project in the Dunean Mill Village. We will celebrate the start of construction on September 17 during a ribbon cutting ceremony at Dunean Church.
“The renewal of the wastewater collection system in the Dunean Mill Village area will improve water quality in our streams and rivers, our environment and protect public health,” said Carol Elliott, General Manager of MetroConnects’. “It also will ensure continued service for the future and for the homes and businesses we serve.”
Clean Water Forward
The project is part of MetroConnects’ Clean Water Forward initiative, which addresses aging wastewater infrastructure and sewer capacity issues in Greenville County to create a sustainable, well maintained and reliable wastewater system. The initiative involves sewer rehabilitation projects throughout the textile crescent, where much of the sewer system includes pipes that were put in the ground more than a century ago. MetroConnects crews and contractors began work in the Mills Mill Village area this summer as part of the initiative. Dunean is up next, with crews breaking ground this fall. Future projects include replacement of the wastewater collection systems in Union Bleachery Mill Village and Judson Mill Village.
Dunean Project Scope
The Dunean Mill Village project will involve replacing and relocating approximately 7,778 linear feet of gravity sewer lines and 66 manholes in the area to correct existing structural defects and deterioration of the century-old system. The project will also rehabilitate approximately 635 linear feet of existing sewer lines and five existing manholes. This rehabilitation and replacement work will help prevent Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) and prevent excess Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) into MetroConnects collection pipes.
Dunean Mill Village, broadly speaking, spans from Hutchins Street to Wallace Street, and Henry Street to West Faris Road. Numerous establishments call this area home, including the Dunean Church, Dunean United Methodist Church, Dunean Mills Community Alliance, Threads in Time Vintage, Crawford and Son’s Lawn Maintenance, and Dunean Mill Apartments. The upcoming work in the area will be completed in two phases, with phase 1 covering the area approximately from Anderson Road to Maria Drive, and Emery Street to Hale Street.
