Meet Jackson
Today is National Intern Day, and we’re celebrating our engineering intern, Jackson Reel! Currently attending Clemson University, Jackson is studying civil engineering and is on track to graduate in May 2027.
Jackson has always wanted to pursue a career in engineering because of his passion for solving problems and finding innovative solutions that improve the lives of others.
During his time at Clemson University, Jackson has completed several courses featuring semester-long projects that allow students to apply classroom theory to real-world engineering challenges. In his Springer course, Jackson and his team designed a parking lot and presented their proposal to a professional engineering firm. Their project earned the Client’s Choice Award.
Jackson first learned about MetroConnects through contacts at engineering firms that frequently work with our team. He recognized wastewater collection as one of the most essential public utilities and wanted to learn how engineers in the industry work to protect public health and the environment.
During his summer at MetroConnects, Jackson has gained experience through a variety of projects involving the planning, improvement, and maintenance of the wastewater collection system. He has had the opportunity to venture into the field for offsite testing, review plans and capacity requests to ensure they meet MetroConnects’ standards, and work with our capital project group, including sitting in on a bid meeting. Jackson is excited to gain real-world experience learning how engineers maintain and improve existing infrastructure.
When asked how his internship at MetroConnects prepared him for the future, Jackson said: “I learned valuable, real-world experience that I can’t get from the classroom. I was able to work hands-on alongside experienced engineers from a variety of backgrounds who were willing to share their knowledge. There is so much to learn every day, and you stay involved just like you would if you were part of the team full time.”
We’re thankful Jackson chose to spend his summer with MetroConnects and bring his passion for problem-solving to our team. His willingness to learn and engage with every opportunity has made this internship a rewarding experience for everyone involved. We look forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the future!
