MetroConnects is excited to be moving and expanding our facilities to a new campus in the City of Mauldin at 1151 W. Butler Road.
Due to growth in Greenville County, MetroConnects’ service area and staff have doubled in size over the past three years. We have stretched our current facilities beyond maximum capacity, requiring us to lease additional off-site space.
The new facility will ensure all services, operations, and equipment are in one place, enabling us to provide faster, more efficient service levels long into the future. The location, which is close to major roads, will give customers easier access to us, and it’s near our partner utility, Renewable Water Resources (ReWa). We believe our team is great at what we do, and this new facility will help us be even better.

We began preparing the site in the fall of 2024, and construction is expected to continue through 2025 and be completed by the first quarter 2026. Construction activities will take place during the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Trash, mail, emergency vehicles, and school bus service to the surrounding properties will not be disrupted during construction.
As experts in wastewater collection, protecting public health and the environment is our core mission. We will maintain natural buffers and also plant new trees, comply with stormwater and erosion control regulations, and seek ways to ensure our presence adds value to its surroundings. The building design will also complement the neighborhood and nearby commercial properties.

The estimate construction costs are $32 million, and our current facility at the SC Technical Aviation Center will be sold to help offset the construction costs of the new campus.

MetroConnects is one of the largest wastewater collection providers in South Carolina, serving more than 100,000 customers and maintaining 1,500 miles of wastewater collection infrastructure in Greenville County. Our work is crucial for protecting public health, safeguarding the environment, and preserving water resources. MetroConnects is a special purpose district, created in 1969, and serves as Greenville County’s wastewater collection provider. MetroConnects conveys wastewater to Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) for treatment.
Our current location was built in 2000 when MetroConnects had a fifth of the system, employees, and equipment that it does now. Throughout the past 25 years, MetroConnects has grown five times its original size through regionalization and growth in Greenville County. Greenville County is one of South Carolina’s fastest growing counties, requiring MetroConnects to also grow. Through regionalization, MetroConnects’ wastewater collection system doubled in size, over the last three years, to serve seven additional wastewater collection systems in the county, and we expect our expansion to continue to meet growth as specified in the County’s Comprehensive Plan. Our current facilities are stretched beyond capacity, causing us to lease additional space off site for employee parking. The new campus will improve our efficiency by ensuring all services, operations, and equipment will be on one site.
The new campus will have a better location and accessibility for our customers. It will also enhance operational efficiency, keeping administrative, operations, and maintenance functions in one location.
By moving to a larger, more strategically located site, MetroConnects can better support the growing community. The new campus will help ensure high service levels and allow for future growth as Greenville County’s population increases over the next 40 years.
MetroConnects is committed to environmental stewardship. The new site will maintain natural buffers, and MetroConnects will plant new trees to comply with all stormwater and erosion control regulations, ensuring minimal environmental impact and protecting neighboring properties. MetroConnects will also maintain the natural creek that is situated on the property. Our construction will also improve how stormwater in the area is managed.
The new campus is situated in a commercial corridor, which minimizes impacts on residential areas. Our hours of operation will remain Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The site’s design includes measures to limit noise and traffic disruptions.
There will be no negative impacts on nearby landmarks, including the Conestee Dam. MetroConnects is coordinating closely with partners to ensure all construction activities are safe and compliant with local regulations. Our construction will improve stormwater management in the area.
Our current facility at the SC Technical Aviation Center will be sold to help offset the construction costs of the new campus.
The new campus is designed to accommodate future growth, with space for additional staff, equipment, and operations as needed well into the future. This foresight ensures that MetroConnects can continue to provide reliable services as our community grows.
MetroConnects is committed to transparency and will engage with the community throughout the construction and relocation process. MetroConnects will provide construction updates on our website and through our social media channels. We also will post renderings, frequently asked questions about the building, videos of the project’s progress, and other information as available. We welcome feedback and will provide updates to ensure all stakeholders are informed and involved.
